Elections

Gingrich and Romney. Charisma vs Real Deal.

by Boris Borovoy

Newt Gingrich just came to town as self-proclamed conservative alternative. This was just fantastic. No kidding. What a spirit!

He was having an extramarital affair in the middle of Clinton’s impeachment; he was sincerely apologizing to Jesse Jackson for having criticized “poverty pimps,” and then inviting Jackson to a State of the Union address; he was on a global warming commercial with the most notorious democrat Nancy Pelosi; and endorsing George Soros’s candidate Dede Scozzafava in a congressional special election; and appearing in public in company of Rev. Al Sharpton to promote "educational reform"; and recently calling Paul Ryan’s truly brilliant Social Security saving plan “right-wing social engineering”... As the cherry on a top that delicious crem we found out that Gingrich was a recipient of Freddie Mac political money. After Gingrich admitted to receiving $300,000 from Freddie, we found out last week that it was actually closer to $1.6 million. What is that? Just bad memory or plain lie?

Let's admit, however, that Newt was great when he was chairman of GOPAC back in the ’90s and absolutely amazing House Speaker. He's got charisma and charm, he'd cut his teeth in real politics. And - yes - he is very intelligent. Just like our president, he barely held any real job and never was working as executive. Never. In contrary, his main rival, Romney got such experience in both worlds - business and governmental. There may be better conservative candidates than Romney, but, unfortunately, they’re not available right now.

Ok, he is Mormon and some strange aspects of Mormonism making him sort of questionable figure for hard-core evangelists. Fortunately for us, majority of Republicans are sane enough to not mix religion and politics. Romney has ability to trick liberals vote for him. He can talk. He'd got spotless reputation and amazing track record of solving serious problems. He is quiet bitter, but necessary medicine to cure our system, which since Kennedy's election preferring charisma over real deal and looks like bunch of jackals worshiped by jackasses. The last one nearly wreck the country and our Republic couldn't survive the next one.
