How to avoid the Point of No Return

By A.Fridman and B.Borovoy

Difficult times often produce charismatic leaders, both evil and good. Sometimes it's unclear who's who until the very last moment. The moment of truth. Our current president came into office in the midst of really bad economic times. He promised a lot and expectations were high, but he didn't fit the situation. When the smoke of enthusiasm cleared, most Americans saw that he was obviously unsuited for the gargantuan task at his hands. For some it was sort of a surprise and for others it was "predictable project failure".

Those three years of insane spending, unfair bailouts, ridiculous regulation and taxation couldn't resurrect US economy from its deep coma. Socialist policies have never worked in critical times and never will. Period. But it wasn't objective for him and his team. They and their liberal friends simply don't care. We only can guess how his sponsors, lobbyists and special interest groups got paid. No doubt - very handsomely. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate came up to the shocking 9.1%. Reformed medical care became a monstrous mutant, endangered the whole existence of our country. His floating foreign policies make the standing of the United States uncertain at the best and keep alienating allies and emboldening foes. Nice. Just what we need now, isn't it?

Nevertheless, he is ready and will seek reelection. If that happens we'll have not just a mere "project failure", but a national catastrophe. Leftist protest movement, ignited by President Obama class-dividing rhetoric, already became a major troublemaker for many cities in America. Unions are joining in, as well as thousand brain-washed disappointed individuals quickly became a dangerous unruled mob, demanding "abolish Capitalism". Some are wishing that Chairman Mao might be a President, some even calling this highly disturbing chaotic situation a "New October Revolution". Despicable.

Can we prevent his reelection and make him, like Jimmy Carter, "done in one"? Yes. If we bring the right candidate. An electable one. So far we are not seeing not much in our roster. All our candidates are sincere and honest. Some have qualifying conditions. Some are visionaries and true hardcore conservatives with strong grass-root support of Tea Party. Still, not many of them look good in the eyes of independent voters and most of the sane and reasonable democrats. Winning the Swing States is the key for future elections. We must win those battles, otherwise we lose our war.

Some people are saying we need a Leader with Big Charisma and an even Bigger Conservative Vision to win. Indeed, it helps. But not now. History has own dialectics and in a storm like this we'd rather have an Admiral Nelson, than a Sir Francis Drake in charge of our fleet. With all respect to the mighty Mrs. Michelle Bachmann, truly great Dr. Ron Paul and genuinely wise Mr. Herman Cain, looks like the most electable candidate so far is a Mr. Willard Mitt Romney.

As governor of Massachusetts, he turned the state’s budget from deficit to surplus. His time in government was a real moment of public service — a way to give back to our country — following a highly distinguished career in the private sector, but way before that, when the 2002 Winter Olympics were on the verge of collapse due to a bid-rigging scandal, Mitt Romney was also asked to take over. He presided over a complex security mobilization, fixed the management troubles plaguing the games, and staged one of the most memorable Olympic Games ever seen on American soil.

Well, some zealots already scream that they would never ever vote for him because of his lack of hardened "true conservatism" and his "liberal leanings", pointing out his fiscal policies and health care reform. Indeed, he wasn't the most hawkish governor in American history. He just did what he could do as a Republican Executive in a very Liberal State. We agree with their concern that Romney could possibly further tarnish the Republican Party reputation among conservatives.

However, just try to keep two things in mind and in prayer during this election. First, if Mitt Romney is elected with a strong Tea Party presence in the House and the Senate, Congress will act to limit the damage he might otherwise do. Second, Remember the Supreme Court. The Republic simply cannot withstand more Obama appointments to the court. End of story.

By the way, our "Saint" Reagan did raise the taxes and was sometimes quite flexible on other matters too. Don't be silly good people, real life isn't driven by rhetoric, but by common sense, experience, imagination and compromise. So let's stop the agitation and get to the point. Simply compare two Curriculum Vitae and make your decision. Thank you.
